Stern Drive Boats The PerfectPass WakeboardPro has been an extremely popular product for wakeboarders utilizing standard stern drive boats. These boats can deliver good wake characteristics, but are very difficult to drive at a smooth constant speed due to hull characteristics and throttle lever movement.
PerfectPass has been the answer for hundreds of boat owners that could not enjoy wakeboarding prior to installing speed control. The benefits of WakeboardPro are so compelling that boat builders including Cobalt, Chaparral, SeaRay and Rinker offer the system as a factory option in addition to wake towers, etc.
If your late model boat has a standard V Hull and any of these engines (MerCruiser 5.0, 5.7, 6.2 / Volvo 5.0, 5.7, 8.1) then PerfectPass will likely be a standard installation.

PerfectPass is the hot brand in the speed control market for water-sports enthusiasts. It isn't flashy, like a new paint job or stereo, but when it comes to actually adding value, few items come close.
Boating Life Fall 2004
Since holding speed at plane is much more difficult for a stern drive boat than an inboard boat, we foresee speed control becoming more common for watersports enthusiasts who prefer sterndrive power.

The migration of towers and PerfectPass from specialized wakeboard boats to stern drive runabouts in recent years has enhanced the weekend fun of water sports lovers everywhere.

I will never buy a boat without PerfectPass again. This should not be an option, but standard equipment. What a great product you make.

"My new WakeboardPro on a 2004 Four Winns works really, really well. It holds speeds ranging from my 8 year old at 13 mph to myself running at 18 mph. It was as the name infers, "Perfect". Every boat owner needs this."

Why RPM based Speed Controls are not effective for wakeboarding..
PerfectPass learned many years ago that RPM based control logic just does not work well for wakeboarding on most boats. The reasons are simple:
On many boats, the hull is on the verge of planning at wakeboard speeds (18-22 mph). If the set RPM is 2600 for 21 mph and the boat then falls on to plane, the rpm remains at 2600 but the boat speed has increased by several mph.
Every time you adjust the trim position, the boat speed will change. This means constant fiddling with the rpm set point is required to get the right speed.
Loaded boats often need extra RPM in a turn to maintain a proper speed. Most RPM control systems can not compensate beyond the constant rpm setpoint.
RPM control tends to be lazier than speed based logic. When the rider pulls, an immediate speed adjustment is required to maintain the right speed and wake shape.
For these reasons, PerfectPass uses the extremely accurate "thru hull" paddle wheel. When the driver dials in a set speed, it holds that speed regardless of hull position or trim operation.
Only PerfectPass offers speed based "Cruise" systems. Don't be fooled by imitations.
